The minimalist appearance reflects two principles I apply to design (and other pursuits): simplicity improves usability and scarcity enhances value. Scarcity of color may seem unnatural to an artist, but it makes colorful objects, such as my photography and design projects, much more prominent. And that, my friends, is effective design!
